A Brief Overview of the Music Curriculum*
The music curriculum at Broadview Elementary is designed to meet the objectives and outcomes
found in the Sunshine State Standards and Grade Level Benchmarks for Music, Grades kindergarten
through fifth.
The Standards for Music are classified into five areas:
1. Skills and Techniques
2. Creation and Communication
3. Cultural and Historical Connections
4. Aesthetic and critical Analysis
5. Applications to Life
Scheduling and Contact Time
The scheduling for this year poses quite a complex challenge in terms of consistent contact time
for each class. Broadview Elementary students receive instruction in music class mostly for four 30
minute periods and four 40 minute periods in the middle and end of the day to accommodate staff
development and planning for classroom teachers to meet by grade level.
